What Fellows Get

We are looking for students who have the drive and desire to thrive in the US-Brazil Connect Fellowship Program and who are committed to helping build opportunities for future community college participants. Selected US-Brazil Connect Fellows serve as ambassadors of their colleges and come from a wide range of disciplines. They participate in a paid fellowship and receive lodging, meals and a stipend. Working as leaders to help small groups of Brazilian students improve their English, Fellows explore Brazil, build skills in global leadership, and create life-changing relationships.

  • Knowledge and in-depth experience of Brazil: Fellows learn about Brazil, the world’s 6th largest economy, through study in a 2 credit hour online course, intense interaction, a weekend seminar, and 4-week immersion in Brazil.
  • Fellowship: Learn and practice global leadership skills in action. Fellows participate in a paid internship, serving as a coach, mentor, and facilitator to a group of 12-15 Brazilian high school students who are studying to enter technical fields and need practice and exposure to native speakers to improve their English. Fellows receive support and training for their role as a tutor and coach.
  • Immersion, global leadership, critical thinking, problem solving: True global leadership begins with direct experience of living, working and learning outside the United States.
  • Connections, networks and community: Fellows build new networks, create relationships and see first-hand how global trends in innovation and technology are reshaping the world.

Benefits of the Fellowship

  • Internship: US Fellows will tutor Brazilian students online (March – June) and earn funding of $550 towards in-country expenses in Brasil, payable upon our arrival in Brasil.
  • Lodging and food: Our hosts, The Brasilian Confederation of Industry and the school of SESI and SENAI, will support interns and faculty, providing local accommodations and meals for our month in Brazil.
  • Low cost program participation: Approximately $2,200, plus community college tuition for online course. Thanks to generous support from sponsors and donors, costs to U.S. Fellows are subsidized.
