2016 TEAM LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
Thank you for your interest in Leadership opportunities with US-Brazil Connect. We have closed the application for our 2016 program, but will reopen it in the fall for 2017 opportunities. In the meantime, we encourage you to support our work in other ways. Please donate or volunteer today.
Responsibilities
Leaders must be passionate about education, cross-cultural exchange, and leadership development for youth and young professionals. As part of the US-Brazil Connect leadership team, they are responsible for leading or co-leading one of 30-35 US-Brazil Connect 2015 teams, each of which is assigned to a different site in Brazil. As US-Brazil Connect site leaders, they are responsible for:
- Working in a “creative partnership” with the central US-Brazil Connect staff;
- Overseeing their US team of fellows;
- Representing US-Brazil Connect to their designated Brazilian partners;
- Traveling to Brazil for 4 weeks in summer 2015;
- Connecting online and in-person with Brazilian high school students.
Time Commitments
Leadership positions are part-time, temporary contract positions. They are organized into an orientation phase and 3 program phases:
- Orientation Phase: approximately 25 hours, including a 2-day leadership weekend workshop (February-March)
- Phase I: Approximately 10-12 hours per week (March-May); a two-day fellows’ weekend workshop
- Phase II: 4 weeks full-time in Brazil in Phase II (June or July)
- Phase III: Approximately 8-10 hours per week for 6 weeks in Phase III
Apart from 2 full-weekend workshops and 2-3 evening leadership meetings each month during Phase I, Phases I and III also involve primarily distance-based work via Facebook, Google Hangout, and other online applications. Successful leaders have come from a variety of professional and experiential backgrounds and many people have been capable of balancing this position with a full-time regular job.
Compensation
Leaders will receive a leadership payment from US-Brazil Connect. US-Brazil Connect covers the cost of the airline ticket to Brazil and a Brazilian visa. While in Brazil, all meals, lodging in a hotel, local transportation and health insurance are also covered.
Leadership Roles
Team Coordinators (TC)
Responsible for coordinating team logistics, data management and reporting, and communicating with Brazilian partners.
Education Facilitation Specialists (EFS)
Responsible for coaching their fellows in areas of classroom management, lesson planning, developing interactive classroom activities, and reflective coaching/teaching practice.
*In smaller sites, there will be only one leader who will be responsible for both Team Coordinator and Education Facilitation Specialist responsibilities.
